Crossrail engineers in Shenfield miss out on New Year festivities

Crossrail engineers worked through the New Year celebrations as they rush to complete the new line between Shenfield and London for this spring.

The Elizabeth Line will begin to run from the new platform six at Shenfield from May, initially to Liverpool Street station, before a new central London route will open and ultimately head out to Reading and Heathrow Airport via Paddington by December 2019.

But in order to finish the last bits of the work, such as putting in new sidings and signalling as well as remodelling the track, Network Rail engineers have closed the lines between Brentwood and Shenfield from December 24, until late May.

They have fewer than five months to complete the works.
