COMPOSITE FAILURE MECHANISMS IN COAL MEASURES ROCK MASSES – MYTHS AND REALITY (2006)

Excavated slopes in open pit coal mines are designed to be as steep as possible consistent with stability and safety requirements. Slope failures occur for many reasons, including oversteepening. This paper is concerned with slope design and excavation experience in the Bowen Basin coalfields of central Queensland.
