EROSION AND SEDIMENT POLLUTION CONTROL PROGRAM MANUAL (2012)

The basic concept of providing effective, efficient and practical erosion and sediment control should be considered when determining the locations and types of Best Management Practices. All off-site surface water should be diverted away from areas to be disturbed, all site stormwater should be collected and conveyed to a sediment basin, sediment trap, or other BMP for sediment removal.

Temporary stabilization should be provided for earth exposed areas where earthwork is delayed or stopped and permanent stabilization should ultimately be provided for all disturbed areas. Sediment removal treatment for water pumped from excavations may be needed. Access to the site and removal of mud from vehicle tires before vehicles exit onto existing paved areas may be required.
