CIPR ANNUAL REPORT 2009 (2009)

Meeting the world’s energy needs over the coming decades will require massive investment, research effort, and ingenuity. The rapid increase in human population over the course of the 20th century has raised concerns about balance between Earth accelerating energy consumption and population growth. Fossil fuels will continue to dominate the available energy mix for the next century, but the resources are becoming more difficult to access and develop. Renewable energy is encurraged, but will only have minor impact on the world energy consumption. It is not an issue of either pursuing fossil fuels or renewables, as all energy sources is needed for the next decades.
