Rain a factor in landslides

Neighbors on S.E. 46th Street felt what they thought was an earthquake at about 1 a.m. on Monday morning. It turned out to be a 200-foot landslide that took out a chunk of their private road. The 45 homeowners who live on the street, near East  Mercer Way, will have to pay about $1,200 each to fix the damage. Chad Griffin, of Griffin Foundation Repair, said that he was surprised to find that none of the homes had been damaged, and that the heavy rains over the weekend are the probable cause of the landslide.
