Melbourne Metro: challenge of tunnelling beneath Yarra River still unresolved

Engineers will have to partially dam the Yarra River opposite Federation Square, or immerse huge prefabricated concrete tubes into the river, to build the Melbourne Metro rail tunnel.

The complex engineering challenge of building the $11 billion rail tunnel has yet to be fully resolved, despite the Andrews government confirming the alignment the tunnel will take through the city – straight down the spine of Swanston Street.
