Triaxial Testing

Triaxial testing provides realistic simulations of in situ rock properties. By subjecting small specimens to axial and lateral stress plus high temperatures, triaxial testing helps predict how the entire rock mass will respond to changes in load, stress, displacements, pore pressure, pore volume, failure and other conditions. Typical specimens are rock core samples with length-to-width ratios of 2:1 or greater, and sizes ranging from one to four inches. Axial stress is applied through the load frame actuator and confining stress is applied with a triaxial cell
