The existing literature on emissions from mechanical-biologically treated waste has been revised. These are the materials arriving nowadays to landfills for municipal waste in Europe, but their potential impact is not yet thoroughly known. In this work, published results in this field are critically analyzed to draw conclusions about the consequences of waste treatment regarding the reduction of landfill emissions. Moreover, areas that need further investigation to confirm the current data are identified
