About 2,000 items at the Geological Museum in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, can help visitors deepen their understanding about the materials of the Earth’s crust, such as igneous rocks and fossils, in the Japanese archipelago where earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and other active movements continue to occur.
The 10-meter-long, 1:340,000 scale topographical model of the Japanese islands details the geological features of the archipelago.
The map uses different colors to identify geological ages and rock types.
