Landslide forecasts sent to mobile phones

A system to forecast landslides has been invented by the Geological Survey of Bangladesh (GSB) and the Geotechnical Institute of Norway.

A forecast machine sends a signal to mobile phones when the risk of a landslide increases.

The system has already been successful in hilly areas.

Due to heavy rainfall, soil and loose rocks absorb water. As a result, the pressure of water intensifies inside loose rocks and soil. Later, the ground cracks and due to gravity, a landslide starts at the hill.

The forecast machine works on the basis of data and statistics of rainfall measurement, types of soil, and time.
