The well-preserved rare fossil of a 9ft-long saltwater crocodile that roamed Europe 180 million years ago is expected to snap up £165,000 when it goes under the hammer.

The perfectly-preserved skeleton of a Steneosaurus - a Jurassic-age crocodile - was discovered hundreds of miles from the sea in south-west Germany.

It was found among a rock formation prized for its fossils.

The area near the Bavarian town of Holzmaden, aka Posidonia Shale, was underwater 180m years ago and is now one of the world's most important sites for Jurassic finds.
