CATASTROPHIC 1638 EARTHQUAKES IN CALABRIA (SOUTHERN ITALY):NEW INSIGHTS FROM PALEOSEISMOLOGICAL INVESTIGATION (2004)

This paper is a study of paleoseismic data of the Calabria area by opening four trenches and finding evidence of several displacement events. The data presented in this paper imply the necessity to reassess the seismic hazard of the region, the local seismogenetic zones currently mismatching the real epicenters (the June one being shifted westward) and the associated seismogenetic faults.
