ASSESSING ROCKFALL SUSCEPTIBILITY BY TERRESTRIAL SAR INTERFEROMETRY (2010)
An innovative approach for the rockfall susceptibility analysis based on the combined application of Terrestrial Laser Scanner and Terrestrial SAR Interferometry has been developed. By this approach large and inaccessible rock scarps can be analyzed and most susceptible blocks and sectors can be identified and mapped in detail. The approach has been tested in a rock scarp in the city of Bolzano. Nine surveys by TInSAR have been carried out from May 2008 and March 2010 thus allowing to obtain short term and long term displacement maps of the rock scarp. No sectors affected by permanent displacements have been identified while temporary “elastic” deformations have been observed in some partially released blocks.
