CONTENTS SLIDING RESPONSE SPECTRA (2012)
In this paper, a simple numerical model is used to simulate the contents sliding behaviour. After a brief introduction of the methodologies and development of sliding model, the contents sliding behaviour during an earthquake shaking is investigated analytically, followed by the development of the sliding response spectra for contents in structures
with different strength reduction factors, coefficients of friction, and structural periods. It is shown that movement of contents is greater when the friction factor is less and when the structure has lower response period and greater strength. An example application of the use of the contents sliding response spectra is provided. Future research directions are also identified.
