SLIPE LINE SOLUTION BY SPREADSHEET (2008)
Many soil stability problems in geotechnical engineering can be analyzed by means of the classical slip line method - a relatively rigorous (baseline) solution. A slip line solution satisfies the lower bound theorem in plasticity theory, ie it satisfies boundary conditions, equilibrium equations and yield criteria for soil. It also provides insight into the soil failure mechanism, while requiring fewer assumptions than more traditional engineering approaches.
