SOME EXPERIENCE FROM THE SOFT GROUND TUNNELLING IN URBAN AREA (2008)

Poor geological conditions are often encountered during underground construction in urban areas. Additionally, buildings, underground infrastructures and other facilities are more densely situated along or under the streets of a city or town. Changes to groundwater levels or ground displacement caused by underground openings or deep excavations will have a negative impact on existing structures particularly those located in areas with poor subsoil conditions. This paper will address some valuable technical solutions concerning safe tunnelling in soft geological conditions. Successful case histories will also be presented with an emphasis on auxiliary measures.
