Calls for urgent intervention to prevent closure of key NSW coal mine and power station

There is an urgent call from the mining town of Lithgow, west of Sydney, to secure the future of a mine that is the only coal supplier for a key New South Wales power station.

The future of Springvale Mine in the state's central-west has been in doubt after an extension of its approval was ruled invalid by the Land and Environment Court last month.

The mine, owned by Centennial Coal, continues to operate until final court orders are given.
