Deep within Auckland's giant tunnel boring machine lie two chambers set up to save workers' lives.
The machine, known as Alice, is central to the country's largest infrastructure project – the $1.4 billion Waterview Connection motorway project in Auckland.
Half the Waterview Connection is underground in 2.4 kilometre twin tunnels being constructed by the world's 10th largest tunnel boring machine – Alice.
