Beach collapses on Australian island, creating massive hole
Erosion has caused a huge hole to open in a beach in northern Australia.
Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) tweeted a photo of the gaping hole at Jumpinpin Bar on North Stradbroke Island, off the coast of Queensland.
A spokesperson for SLSQ told Mashable Australia via email the beach collapsed sometime on Wednesday, but the exact timing is hard to ascertain as the location is 25 kilometres from the nearest patrolled beach.
The massive hole — which is about 100-metres wide or "slightly smaller than a football field" — had created dangerous surf conditions, and SLSQ urged residents to not enter the water.
