Contractor takes on [Yeager] airport creek challenge – and wins

The ragged upturned dirt is all that remains after a portion of the man-made hillside supporting Yeager Airport’s runway extension collapsed earlier this month, sending tons of dirt and rocks onto Keystone Drive and into Elk Two Mile Creek. The landslide destroyed a house and church. Digging a new creek bed, at night, through an active landslide is by no means a simple task, even for an experienced contractor.

Quick thinking and a precarious plan by Rodney Loftis and Son Contracting saved dozens of homes, businesses and the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association from a watery encounter last week.
