INVESTIGATION OF MAGNETORHEOLOGICAL DAMPERS FOR EARTHQUAKE HAZARD MITIGATION (1998)

In recent studies the efficacy of magnetorheological (MR) devices for seismic response modificationhas been demonstrated both experimentally and analytically. Prior experimental investigations focused on the use of a single MR damper to control a multi-story structure. A clipped-optimal control algorithm based on acceleration feedback was developed for use with the MR damper. Analytical investigations extended this approach to the case in which multiple dampers are employed. The focus of this study is experimental verification of this resultby using multiple magnetorheological MR devices to control a structure.
