PROBABILISTIC PASSIVE EARTH PRESSURE ANALYSIS BY THE RANDOM FINITE ELEMENT METHOD (2005)
The paper initially reviews some established probabilistic analysis techniques, such as the First Order Second Moment (FOSM), and the First Order Reliability Method (FORM), and then goes on to describe a more rigorous approach called the Random Finite Element Method (RFEM) in which random field and finite element methodologies are merged. The results highlight cases in which proper modeling of spatial correlation is important, and illustrate this through a simple example of passive earth pressure.
