ANT COLONY OPTIMIZATION FOR LOCATING THE CRITICAL FAILURE SURFACE IN SLOPE STABILITY ANALYSIS (2011)

Locating the critical slip surface with the minimum factor of safety of a slope is a difficult NP type optimization problem. In recent years, some modern global optimization methods have been developed with success in treating various types of problems, but very few of these methods have been applied the complicated problem which is known as one the most important problems in geotechnical engineering. The proposed algorithm is demonstated to be efficient in solving complicated problems with high level of confidence.
