LIMIT STATE DESIGN IN GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING (1981)

During the past decade a new fashion has emerged in the presentation of design calculations demanded by codes of practice in the field of structural engineering. The roots of this innovation may perhaps be traced to the widespread rethinking of the  whole design process which accompanied the post war boom in construction, demanding at it did the accelerated application of new technology and new materials on a vast scale.
