An assessment is made of contemporary effective sea-level rise (ESLR) for a sample of 40 deltas distributed worldwide. The deltas in this study represent all major climate zones, levels of population density, and degrees of economic development.

This study has shown that in wave dominated environments, the morphology of the coastline is strongly influenced by weathering and subaerial processes as well, including karst phenomena favoured by the geological and structural setting
