Saudi Arabia awards desalination plant
A Spanish-Italian JV has won a US$255m (£201m) contract for a desalination plant in Saudi Arabia.
The joint venture of Abengoa and Salini Impregilo’s Fisia Italimpianti unit will design and build the plant for ACWA Power on behalf of the end client, the state-owned water desalination company, Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC).
The plant, which is in the Shuaiba area on the western coast of Saudi Arabia, will use reverse osmosis technology to deliver up to 250,000m3 of water per day. It will supply potable water to more than a million residents in the cities of Mecca, Jeddah and Taif.
