Pathetic! 40 years, Rs 389-crore later, dam wall collapses in Bihar before inauguration by Nitish Kumar
Ahead of its scheduled inauguration by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the wall of a Rs 389-crore dam collapsed during the trial run and inundated nearby areas of a township in Bhagalpur on Tuesday. Newspapers in the state had today published advertisements announcing the inauguration of the dam by the CM. However, Bihar government cancelled the programme for “technical reasons”.
The dam is a part of ambitious Gateshwar Panth Canal Project, aimed at providing irrigation facilities in the state and neighbouring Jharkhand.
