Earthquakes today MAPPED: Tens of earthquakes RUMBLING around the world
MORE than 32 earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 or above have been recorded by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) in the past 24 hours. Here is where the tremors struck in the world. Most of the earthquakes were recorded along the Ring of Fire, a basin of the Pacific Ocean where many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur. The ring stretches along a 25,000 miles arc from the boundary of the Pacific Plate, to smaller plates such as the Philippine Sea plate, to the Cocos and Nazca Plates that line the edge of the Pacific Ocean. People most at risk from volcanic eruptions and earthquakes live in countries that lie along the Ring of Fire, including Chile, Japan and the US west coast.
