Rangitata River flooding: Main trunk rail line suffers significant flood damage
The main trunk rail line at Rangitata has suffered "significant damage" from flooding according to an initial assessment by KiwiRail.
KiwiRail executive general manager operations Siva Sivapakkiam said while the company is waiting on flood waters to recede so it can complete a full assessment of the damage to the line, used by about six services a day, about 350 metres of track was "affected" by flooding when the Rangitata River burst its banks on Saturday morning.
