Crossrail construction unearths London’s history
The remnants of London’s last remaining shipyard, a medieval manor and a mass grave of plague victims are among a rich collection of finds dug up by the builders of Crossrail.
Since construction of the capital’s £15bn railway line began in 2009, more than 200 archaeologists have unearthed over 10,000 artefacts from 40 locations, spanning 55m years. Due to open in 2018, Crossrail is Britain’s biggest construction project and its largest archaeological dig for decades.
