Could the sinkhole on the A1 be the result of a mine collapse?
One of the region’s busiest roads has been left in chaos following a ‘sinkhole’ emerging in Gateshead.
The hole, which was around 5m by 5m square, was reported late on Saturday night and on Sunday a stretch of the northbound carriageway near the Angel of the North, was closed as a safety measure.
Much speculation followed the hole’s appearance and we ask where did it come from?
